65 riders raced Pegasus Cycling Club’s race “Porters Purgatory” on Saturday. Starting in Kirwee, riders who enjoy the flats had 48kms to try and tire out the climbers, who were relishing the final 2.5 kms which climbed 300 m to the top of Porters Pass. In the A grade, emerging talent Ian Talbot broke free late in the climb to take the win, while the fastest lady was Jeannie Blakemore (B-grade)

This year’s racing calendar sees a line-up of different courses, each with their own characteristics and no doubt as the season unfolds we’re going to see a number surprises and different riders stepping up onto the podium. Racing this weekend took place on the Loburn Circuit, a 16km circuit with a short climb about half way through the lap. It was great to see lots of riders making the trip out to the race and having well contested races.

Tonight, after a break of several years, Pegasus ran a “test” criterium at the AP Showgrounds.  We were hugely excited by the interest coming through the Club webpage and Facebook page in the run up, clocking up a massive 2300 hits! 

A large number of Pegasus riders made their way down to Pleasant Point in Timaru over the weekend for the second of the 2016 Calder Stewart Elite Series. 

Race 3 of 2016 was held out at Sefton, with 68 starting riders.  After some adjustments, A grade had 16 riders, B the largest at 19, C grade had 16 and a further 14 in the D/E/F/junior races.

We hoped for glorious sunshine and no wind… we got pretty much no wind. Despite the rain and drizzle, two races of about 15 riders, and another group of 4 took to the line on Saturday for the first of the club open days at Eyreton Hall. In the A/B grade, a break of 3 riders went clear (Ollie Jones, Richard Lawson and Greg Manson) towards the end of the first lap. That break was dangerous enough for the main pack to give chase and soon it would be all back together. Back in the C grade, it was all together going round the first and second laps… In the final race to start, the 4 riders in the D/E/F Grades ground it out through the bad weather and at the end of lap one, one rider was already off on a banzai attack. Back in the A/B grade, attacks must have started flying, and second time around, a break of about 6 riders had made it away from the main bunch, which included Ollie Jones and Michael Vink. Twenty minutes later, Michael Vink had pushed on out of the break, coming ...

Club Open Days Event 1 on the Eyreton circuit yesterday kicked of the 4 race series aimed at introducing new riders to the sport. Despite being a wet drizzly morning which affected numbers attending, it was a good opportunity to test out the slightly different system of setting up and managing this style of race. Many thanks to the newcomers who hopefully enjoyed the experience, despite the weather, and, as always, to the officials out in the rain keeping things ticking along and safe.
